I have been web freelancing since 1997 here in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I still feel is the heart of high tech activity and innovation in the world. Though I have a lot of local clients, I do have clients all over the United States (Online collaboration works. Skype, google docs and the latest generation of webconferencing sites, etc. have taken online collaboration to a whole new level recently.)

I used to build large custom systems for Fortune 500 companies, the top universities and federal/state/ local government agencies using Java J2EE/Weblogic/Oracle, but have always been dabbling in open source (PHP/MySQL) because of it's ease of deployment and it's cost and value.

Lately, however, 100% of my work is open source(PHP/MySQL). I work with clients installing, customizing and integrating PHP/MySQL open source frameworks (see See 5000+ Drupal (Open Source) Modules I Can Use to Build Your Website). Web 2.0 is alive and well and this is the environment of choice these days. And you know what I like it better! It is now about the idea, which can get very creative, not the technology which should just be the tool, not the product.

Just to give you an idea of Luis the younger years. I moved to San Francisco from Southeast Asia when I was 12 years old. Grew up here in the Bay Area, where I have lived my entire adult life. I currently live and work out of downtown San Francisco right by the Embarcadero. A few moons back, I went to UC Berkeley (Go Bears!!!) for my BA in Economics and MBA from Haas School of Business.

Why am I doing this instead of working on Wall Street. Have you seen Wall Street lately? This is more fun!
